Description
"The Eminija Mounds were built by Native American people of the Late Woodland Period and may date from 500 to 1000 A.D. They are sharply defined and highly visible though some have worn down from their original height. Eminija is an Indian term which means "where the water splits the rocks," hence, Split Rock. These mounds were built by pre-Sioux Indians. Still very visible today from the road side." - internet
"I am strangely drawn to this tree as you have probably noticed it in several of my images. This night I was compelled to jump the fence and finally get the "up close" shot I always wanted. Years of shooting this tree from the fence line and this night I just could not resist. As soon as I took a step over the fence the wind started to whistle and pick up like crazy. As I approached the tree and started lining up my shot, the wind along with the feeling of the -20F wind chill went away and I felt warm, almost as if the tree was sheltering me. As I knelt down to take the shot and hit the shutter button suddenly all I could hear was the loud yips and howls of several coyotes very nearby. This was quite a spiritual experience for me, and one that I will never forget." - Aaron J. Groen
